2017 brought record-breaking number of visitors to the Estonian Museum of Natural History

02. January 2018

In 2017 62,879 people visited the Estonian Museum of Natural History. That is almost 8,000 visitors more than the last record in 2014.

“We are very glad that so many people found their way to the natural history museum this year. This is the best recognition to or work,” says Heidi Vilu, the head of the museum. “Record breaking visitor number shows that nature themes are close to people’s hearts and that we are able to offer our visitors many different things that bring them back again and again,” she adds.

Both traditional events and bold new steps play an important part in the record high visitor number. The biggest part in it plays the exhibition “The Secrets of Ancient Sea” that was opened in the beginning of 2017 and brought almost 7,000 visitors to the museum with first month. The exhibition was completed with a 360-degree virtual reality movie in the summer.

“2017 showed us that taking risks pays off and museum visitor values innovative good quality exhibitions and the educational experience it provides,” says Vilu to sum up last year.
